Biostimulator Fillers

Biostimulator fillers are non-hyaluronic acid based fillers that have a dual action mechanism. They provide both instant volume as common fillers, and stimulates the skin's collagen and elastin to rejuvenate and tighten wrinkles and sagging skin.

Using biostimulator fillers avoids overfilling areas to get lift in the skin, a problem we often see in some celebrities such as overfilled cheeks and nasolabial folds in particular.

With biostimulator filler, a small amount of filler is applied, which then works for up to 9 months after treatment to tighten the skin. The result is therefore progressively better and better.

We use Ellansé, which is one of the longest lasting fillers.

The results of Ellansé last for 24 months, and are therefore often referred to as long-acting or semi-permanent fillers.

Areas to be avoided are mouths, under the eyes and boiler, where the skin is too thin for these types of fillers.

No, biostimulator fillers do not degrade with hyalase like hyaluronic acid-based fillers. It is therefore essential that you go to an experienced practitioner.

Profhilo does not add volume like these types of fillers do, but boosts with moisture.

Both Profhilo and Biostimulator fillers / Ellanse stimulate collagen formation, but as the fillers remain under the skin for a longer period of time, there is more collagen stimulation from these types of fillers.

Another difference is that profhilo is applied to the whole face (minus the forehead), whereas fillers are applied to a specific area.

Therefore, choose Profhilo if you want a general skin refreshment and especially if you have dry and thin skin. Choose Ellanse if you mainly want volume or to improve a specific area of the face.

If you are under 35, regular fillers are better for you. Over 35-40 years old can get good results from biostimulator fillers, especially if the skin has become saggy.

Bruising, swelling and soreness may occur, just like with regular fillers.

The danger with fillers is always if they end up in vessels. Then you can get necrosis / tissue death and applies to both regular fillers and biostimulator fillers. The difference here is that you can dissolve regular filler quickly if that happens, which you cannot do with these types of fillers.

To minimise the risk of necrosis, we always use a cannula for this type of treatment. A cannula is a blunt needle that does not break vessels if they get in the way, and therefore does not inject inside the vessel but slides past and injects around it.

However, it is very important to choose a practitioner with extensive experience in beauty treatments.
