The number of millilitres required is highly individual and depends on factors such as face shape, genetics and age.

In the chin, 1 ml is usually enough for most people, unless you have an underdeveloped chin, which may need more filler.

To get a good effect from the jawline, we recommend at least 1ml on each side. Generally speaking, the narrower your face, the less amount of fillers you need to make a difference.

Fillers in the jawline usually last between 18 to 24 months, with some individual variation.

If it is the first time you are treated with hyaluronic acid, it lasts about 6 months, because it is something new to the body and therefore the body breaks down faster.

It then lasts longer the more times you treat an area, up to 4 years.

Fillers in the chin and jaw are not considered a painful treatment. The area has thick skin and is not innervated by many sensory nerves, like the lips.

We also use fillers with anaesthetics to reduce any discomfort.

The treatment is considered low-risk, which means that serious side effects are very rare.

Expect swelling, soreness and possible bruising.

If you have a double chin that you want to get rid of, we usually recommend that you start with a Belkyra treatment. Belkyra breaks down fat cells permanently and the jawline becomes more prominent naturally.

If you then want even more definition, you can add filler after a couple of weeks.

If you don't have a problematic double chin, you can go straight to filler to create sharper features.

Botox is applied to the jaw if you have overactive jaw muscles. The result is a relaxed jaw muscle and less problems with tense jaws, bruxism (teeth grinding) and headaches.

Aesthetically, Botox narrows the jaw and you basically get the opposite effect as with fillers. With fillers, you build up the jaw angles and get more definition.

• Avoid touching the treated area for at least 4 hours after treatment
• Avoid creams or make-up in 6 hours
• Sleep on your back during the night after treatment
• Avoid intense heat or intense cold for at least 24 hours after treatment
• Avoid strenuous activity for 1-2 days to ensure the filler stays in place
• Avoid saunas, spas, sunbeds and solariums for 2-3 days after treatment

Even with mild swelling, your results should be visible and obvious at once.

You should also be able to return to your work and normal activities immediately following your treatment with jaw fillers.
