Treatment of pigmentation with MeLine and SylfirmX
Pigmentation is a common skin problem that can arise for a variety of reasons. These may include pigmentation spots caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes such as those seen in melasma, or changes in the skin following inflammation and acne. Pigmentation can also become more pronounced over time, resulting in an uneven skin tone.
At Dr. Nina, we use a range of treatment methods for pigmentation, including MeLine and SylfirmX. We will also be offering IPL with the Stellar M22 as a further treatment option. These methods work in different ways, and the choice of treatment is tailored to the type of pigmentation, the condition of your skin and your individual circumstances.

What causes pigmentation?
Pigmentation can occur for a variety of reasons. UV exposure is one of the most common causes and can lead to increased melanin production and sun-related pigmentation spots.
Hormonal changes can also contribute to melasma, which often manifests as darker, more diffuse patches on the face. Inflammation following, for example, acne can also affect pigmentation and leave darker marks once the inflammation has subsided.
Furthermore, the skin’s natural ageing process can contribute to changes in skin pigmentation and a more uneven skin tone.
As pigmentation can have various causes, it is important to first identify the type of pigmentation change involved. At Dr. Nina, we therefore begin with an individual assessment of the skin before recommending treatment.
At NYO Clinic, we will be offering IPL treatment using the Stellar M22 as a further treatment option for pigmentation issues.
MeLine or SylfirmX – which treatment is right for you?
There is no single treatment that suits all types of pigmentation. MeLine, SylfirmX and IPL work in different ways and may therefore be more or less suitable depending on the type of pigmentation you have.
Results and follow-up care
The results following treatment for pigmentation develop gradually and vary depending on the treatment used, the type of pigmentation being treated and how the skin responds.
Some pigmentation changes can be improved after a single treatment, whilst others require a course of treatments and ongoing home care. At MeLine, home care is an important part of the treatment and is carried out in accordance with the individual treatment plan.
Following treatment for pigmentation, it is particularly important to protect the skin from the sun. Daily use of SPF 50 and thorough sun protection are key aspects of aftercare, as UV radiation can stimulate melanin production and contribute to new pigmentation changes.
A personalised skincare routine can also help to maintain the results over time. Your practitioner will recommend which products and aftercare are best suited to your skin and the treatment you have undergone.
Treatment with MeLine
MeLine is a chemical peel specially formulated for the treatment of pigmentation and melasma. The treatment can help to even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of pigmentation changes.
A general MeLine facial treatment is usually carried out as a course of treatments at a clinic, often comprising around 2–3 sessions, spaced approximately one month apart. An important part of the treatment is the personalised home care regime. The products used between treatments form part of the treatment plan and help to support and maintain the results.
MeLine is also available in specific treatments for different areas and types of pigmentation changes. Examples include MeLine Dark Circles, for pigmentation and dark circles under the eyes, and MeLine Spot, which has been developed to treat individual sunspots.
As MeLine is a treatment concept that combines clinic-based treatment with home care, it is important to follow the treatment plan recommended specifically for your skin.
Benefits of MeLine
- Developed specifically for the treatment of pigmentation and melasma
- Suitable for, for example, pigmentation spots, sun-related pigmentation changes and certain forms of melasma
- Combines clinic-based treatment with personalised home care
- Also available as specific treatments for, for example, dark circles under the eyes and isolated age spots
- May help to achieve a more even skin tone over time
Disadvantages of MeLine
- Requires regular home care as part of the treatment
- The results develop gradually and require patience
- Not suitable for all types of pigmentation changes
Treatment with SylfirmX
SylfirmX is an advanced treatment technique that combines microneedling with radiofrequency to affect the skin at a deep level. Among other things, the treatment can affect blood vessels and inflammatory processes in the skin, which may be involved in certain types of pigmentation changes.
SylfirmX may therefore be an option for conditions such as melasma and more complex pigmentary changes, where inflammation and vascular changes may be part of the problem. The treatment may also help to improve skin texture and quality.
Unlike treatments that primarily target the pigment itself, SylfirmX works more on the skin’s deeper structures and underlying factors. The results of the treatment depend on the cause of the pigmentation and the individual condition of the skin.
IPL treatment – Stellar M22
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a treatment technique that can be used to treat, amongst other things, pigmentation changes and uneven skin tone.
IPL uses light energy which is directed at the pigment in the skin. The light energy is converted into heat and affects the pigment, which can then gradually be broken down and removed by the body. It can be an option for, for example, sun-related pigmentation spots and other superficial pigment changes. The treatment is tailored to the skin type, pigmentation and the skin’s overall condition.
Benefits of SylfirmX
- Addresses underlying factors such as inflammation and vascular effects
- May be an option for melasma and more complex pigmentation changes
- May also help to improve skin quality and texture
Disadvantages of SylfirmX
- Is not always the first choice for superficial pigment spots
- Several treatments may be needed to achieve the desired result
- The treatment needs to be tailored to the sensitivity of the skin
Benefits of IPL – Stellar M22
The advantage of IPL is that it breaks down pigment, thereby delivering faster results for pigmentation issues. Other benefits of the treatment include:
- Uses light energy to target pigmentation changes
- May be an option for, for example, sun-related pigmentation spots
- May help to even out skin tone
- Can treat certain types of pigmentation changes without the use of chemical peels or microneedling
Disadvantages of IPL – Stellar M22
The disadvantage of this treatment is that the light generates heat, and it is therefore not suitable for melasma pigmentation in particular. Other disadvantages include:
- Not suitable for all types of pigmentation or skin types
- The treatment needs to be tailored to the condition of the skin
- Several treatments may be needed to achieve the desired result
- Thorough sun protection is important before and after treatment

- When do you see results?
