PRF vs. Fillers - which is better?
PRF and fillers are different types of treatments used to reduce the signs of ageing.
Both fillers and PRF are popular treatments with Dr Nina. And the question is whether PRF will knock fillers out of the popular position it currently holds... PRF is a natural alternative to fillers. But there are some things that fillers can offer that PRF lacks, keep reading to learn more.
The difference between fillers and PRF
PRF stands for Platelet-rich fibrin and is made from your own blood. By centrifuging blood from the arm, the platelets can be separated from other substances in the blood. It can then be injected into the skin to improve skin texture.
PRF increases skin elasticity and boosts the production of new skin cells naturally, without surgery or artificial substances. The risk of allergic reactions is non-existent. If it's maximum volume you're after, fillers are the way to go.
Fillers are hyaluronic acid that can be injected to add volume to the skin. Fillers also fight wrinkles and signs of ageing. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin and keeps it moisturised and supple. A major benefit of fillers is that they can improve the volume of the lips and cheeks. It can be used as an anti-ageing treatment, but also to enhance these areas alone. How long the effect lasts is individual, but it is not uncommon for it to last over a year.
Tear trough is a popular variation of filler, which involves “filling in” the hollowness under the eyes, thus giving a more youthful, lively appearance. It is also possible to do PRF under the eyes.
PRF vs. fillers
Whatever you choose, you will see great results.
Benefits of fillers:
- Helping you to strengthen your traits
- Consists of hyaluronic acid
- You get an effect already after the first treatment
- The result lasts six to twelve months, often even longer
Disadvantages of fillers:
- The first week you may experience swelling and bruising
- To get a consistent and good result, it is important to turn to an experienced and safe practitioner, like Dr Nina
Advantages of the PRF:
- Stimulates the skin's own collagen production
- Helps skin release growth factor and stem cells
- The effect continues to get better and better for up to six months after treatment
- Results last up to one year
- When you use your own blood, the risks are minimal
Disadvantages of the PRF:
- Results may not be as strong as fillers
- You need several treatments to see good results, up to six
It is of course possible to combine fillers and PRF, the two treatments complement each other nicely.
What suits you best, fillers or PRF?
If you want to see quick results, you might want to consider fillers, depending on the area you want to treat. Eventually, your body will break down the injected hyaluronic acid and you will need to top up. As opposed to fillers, PRF gives results over a longer period of time, it takes longer to see the full effect but you will notice the skin improving over time.
