What are polynucleotides?
Does K-beauty make you think of snail slime and other weird ingredients with unexpected effects? Polynucleotides take it a step further.
The method is sometimes called a 'salmon sperm facial', which sounds a bit crazy. The treatment uses chains of nucleotides - the building blocks of DNA - to stimulate the skin's natural renewal and repair.
The treatment utilises polynucleotides from wild salmon, whose DNA is remarkably similar to that of humans. This similarity allows the polynucleotides to integrate easily with our skin cells and activate the body's own repair mechanisms.
Polynucleotides with Dr Nina
There are several brands that manufacture products for injections. We use Rejuran Healer which is well-known, proven and safe. It can be used on the forehead, temples, mid-face, lower face, neck, décolletage and hands. The technique is called micropapular and involves many small superficial injections distributed evenly over the treatment area.
How the treatment works
Before treatment, you may be asked to abstain from medication that may affect blood clotting. Before your treatment, you will receive all the information you need from us at Dr Nina.
Using a thin needle, the polynucleotides are then placed just under the skin in the treatment area. The procedure involves many small pricks about one centimetre apart. It is not usually painful, but you may feel slight discomfort if you have sensitive skin.
1 syringe contains 2 ml and is usually sufficient for two thirds of the face. Polynucleotides have been shown to have a dose-response relationship, meaning that the larger the dose, the better the effect. If you want to buy 2 syringes, we can apply it to the whole face and under the eyes.
For best results, we recommend 2-3 treatment sessions at intervals of about 4-6 weeks. After that, it is good to maintain the treatment once a year. It does not need to be done in cure, but one treatment is usually enough.
After treatment, it may be good to avoid the sun, but you can return to your usual activities straight away afterwards.
