What is Lip Flip?
The treatment causes the muscle around the upper lip to relax and turn the lip outwards, which in turn makes the lips look fuller. Also, when the upper lip is relaxed, it cannot contract as much when talking and grimacing, resulting in less wrinkles.
Is a lip flip the right treatment for me?
The treatment is best suited
- If you want less of your gums to show when you smile, a lip flip is not as effective as a Gummy Smile treatment, but it still reduces some of the gum tissue when smiling.
- If you are interested in having fuller lips without lip filler injections.
- If you feel that your upper lip disappears when you smile.
- If you want to reduce smoke wrinkles around your mouth.
During a lip flip treatment, we use a muscle relaxant such as Botox (Wikipedia) in the upper lip, to help it relax and turn outwards.
The purpose of a lip flip is to show more of your own lip. It is especially suitable for those who think that the lip disappears when you smile.
Lip flip does not give bigger lips, and if this is what you are looking for, fillers are a better option.
What should I consider during a lip flip treatment?
Before
Avoid blood-thinning medication and alcohol 3-4 days before the procedure. Blood thinners can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
Under
- A lip flip treatment takes 5-10 minutes
- Your doctor will make 4 pricks in your upper lip, using a super thin needle.
- The treatment is not very painful and is very quick. Anaesthesia is usually not needed.
After
After lip flip treatment, you can return to your normal activities immediately. It is unusual to get bruises.
Your upper lip may feel a little stiff for about 1 week after treatment. This is normal and temporary.
Tips after the treatment:
- Avoid smoking and snus for 4 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of infection.
- Do not massage or move the lips too much. Massaging the lips may cause the muscle relaxant to move outside the lips.
- Sleep on your back so that your pillow is not pressed against your lips.
