How Botox works to define the jawline
This treatment targets the muscles that pull downwards on the face and neck. For example, we use Botox in the Platysma muscle, a large, thin muscle that runs along the neck and jawline. When this muscle becomes too strong, it can contribute to the formation of so-called 'hamster bags' and make the jawline look less defined.
You may find that your jawline feels fluffy or saggy, giving it an outdated appearance.
Injecting Botox into the Platysma muscle helps it to relax. This has a lifting effect, tightening the skin and muscles along the jawline. The treatment can also be combined with injections into the muscles that pull down the corners of the mouth, further contributing to a more lifted expression. The result is a more pronounced and defined jawline, while the cheeks can be experienced as naturally enhanced.
For whom is Botox in the jawline suitable?
This type of Botox treatment is suitable if you notice that your jawline is starting to lose its firmness or where small hamster bags are starting to become visible.
The treatment is suitable for those with strong platysma muscles, which can be tested by tightening the neck and seeing how strong the bands form. It is important to realise that hamster pouches will not disappear completely with treatment, as there are other factors involved in their formation.
Risks
As with all injection treatments, there is a small risk of side effects. When Botox is injected, in rare cases it can come into contact with nearby nerves, which can lead to a temporary and transient muscle weakness in the area. This is one of the risks we will discuss during your consultation, where you will also be given all the other information you need to feel confident about your treatment.
