PRF vs. PRP - which is better?
PRP and PRF - which is more effective? The abbreviations stand for Platelet rich fibrin and Platelet rich plasma respectively.
Treatments with both materials help to repair and rejuvenate the skin using super substances found naturally - in your own blood!
PRP is sometimes called the 'vampire treatment'. The methods are similar and both very effective, but there are some key differences that we will explain here.
What are PRP and PRF?
Both PRP and PRF are natural growth factors found in our blood. The amazing constituents are:
- Platelets
- White blood cells
- fibrin
These substances stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and new skin cells. PRF is good for treating dark circles, nasolabial folds and the rest of the skin on the face, but can also be used on the hands, décolleté and neck. PRP is mainly used to stimulate hair growth.
How do the PRP and PRF work?
Both PRP and PRF boost cell renewal and collagen production. When you get injured, platelets are activated and release growth factors. Injecting PRP or PRF takes advantage of this process. The growth factors start a healing process by creating new skin cells, collagen and elastin. The result? To die for! Firmer, plumper skin, fewer wrinkles and less hyperpigmentation. Sign me up!
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
The main difference is in the process used to extract all the nutrients in your blood. In PRP, the blood is centrifuged to separate the plasma. In PRF, the blood is shaken at a lower speed to retain the stem cells and fibrin in the platelet layer. The lower speed is gentler and more sustainable for the blood, with the major benefit of a higher concentration of healing platelets. It is not for nothing that PRF is called the second generation PRP!
- PRP is thinner and suitable for increasing hair growth and as a serum in Dermapen.
- PRF is thicker and helps the skin rebuild lost volume. It doesn't build new volume like a filler, but is still a great option for those who don't want synthetic fillers!
Which treatment is right for me?
It depends on the problem you want us to tackle! PRP is most effective for uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, acne scars and wrinkles. We deep wrinkles, PRF works better. In fact, everything PRP can do - PRF does better! And you see the results faster.
Because they use their own blood, PRP and PRF are extremely safe and do not cause allergic reactions. Natural beauty, in other words.
