Choosing Profhilo or Biostimulators

Both Profhilo and biostimulators improve skin quality by stimulating the body's own production of collagen and elastin. But depending on who you are, the two types of treatment are suitable for different people. Keep reading to learn all about Profhilo and biostimulators!

This is Profhilo

Profhilo offers a unique solution that improves the overall condition of the skin and combats the signs of ageing. Unlike traditional fillers, Profhilo stimulates the skin's natural ability to produce collagen and elastin.

Profhilo contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, a key component in maintaining the skin's moisture balance and elasticity. The treatment is usually performed in two sessions, one month apart, with the active ingredient strategically placed on the face or other desired areas.

Unlike fillers that focus primarily on filling in wrinkles and lines, Profhilo works in a more holistic way to improve the overall quality of the skin. The result is more vital, supple and radiant skin with improved moisture balance and elasticity.

The effects of Profhilo are quickly felt and can last up to a year. It is therefore suitable for people of all ages who want to improve their skin quality and counteract ageing, without drastically changing their facial features.

By stimulating the skin's natural healing processes, rather than simply filling it in, Profhilo offers an innovative and sustainable solution to achieve a healthier and more youthful skin tone.

This is Biostimulators

Biostimulator fillers are a type of injection treatment that combines immediate volume enhancement with long-term stimulation of the skin's collagen and elastin production. Unlike traditional fillers, which only provide a temporary increase in volume, biostimulator fillers have a double-acting mechanism that both fills out and deeply improves the skin's structure.

By using biostimulators, a natural lift can be achieved, without the need to overfill areas that can give an unnatural appearance. The small amount of filler applied then works for up to 24 months after treatment to gradually tighten and rejuvenate the skin.

Some of the most well-known biostimulator filler brands are Radiesse, Bellafill and Ellansé, with Ellansé being one of the longest lasting fillers, up to 2 years, and this is what we offer at Dr Nina. These fillers can be used in areas such as cheekbones, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline and temples, but should be avoided around the mouth, under the eyes and on the forehead where the skin is too thin.

Unlike hyaluronic acid-based fillers, biostimulators cannot be broken down by hyalase, making it particularly important to choose an experienced practitioner who can deal with any complications.

In general, biostimulators are best suited for people over the age of 35-40, whose skin has begun to lose elasticity and volume. Younger people can often achieve better results with traditional fillers.

What are the differences and similarities between Profhilo and biostimulators?

Similarities:

  • Both stimulate the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin
  • Both are used to improve the overall quality of the skin and fight the signs of ageing
  • Both offer long-lasting results compared to traditional fillers
  • Both treatments are performed by injections in strategic areas
  • Both aim to provide more vital, supple and radiant skin

Differences:

  • Composition: Profhilo contains hyaluronic acid, while biostimulators use other substances
  • Volume effect: Biostimulators provide immediate volume increase, Profhilo focuses more on skin quality
  • Treatment areas: Biostimulators have more restrictions on where they can be used
  • Duration: Biostimulators can last up to 24 months, Profhilo up to 12 months
  • Age recommendation: Biostimulators are mainly recommended for people over 35-40 years old, Profhilo is suitable for all ages

What suits you best?

While Profhilo uses hyaluronic acid and focuses primarily on improving the overall quality of the skin, biostimulators also provide an immediate increase in volume. Profhilo is suitable for all ages and can be used in more areas, while biostimulators are mainly recommended for people over 35-40 years old. Biostimulators have a longer duration of up to 24 months compared to Profhilo's 12 months. The choice between these treatments depends on individual needs: if you are looking for a general improvement in skin quality without volume increase, Profhilo may be suitable, while biostimulators may be a better choice if you desire both volume and long-term skin improvement, especially if you are over 35 years old.
